Three Steps to Curing Acid Reflux

While there may be no single acid reflux cure that works for everyone, there are enough treatment options that everyone can expect to get relief with a little bit of effort.

As you probably know, acid backing up ( that is, refluxing) into the esophagus causes the burning pain associated with acid reflux. The stomach is the only part of the G.I. tract that can safely handle the acid it contains. Stomach acid backing up into the esophagus injures the esophageal lining.

Considering the causes, a reasonable approach to curing reflux involve avoiding triggering episodes, minimizing the reflux and neutralizing the acid if an episode does occur.

One of the first steps in curing acid reflux is to accept the fact that you probably have to change your diet. If you notice that eating a certain food consistently causes problems then you need to stay away from it, at least until you reflux has been cured for some time.

In addition to being careful about the type of food you eat, it’s important pay attention to how much you eat as well. It’s advisable to eat frequent small meals rather than one or two large meals. The reason is a small meal is much less likely to increase gastric pressure enough to cause serious reflux.

Also be aware that reflux is going to be aggravated by lying down after a meal. The reason is that when you’re upright gravity helps prevent reflux. That’s no longer the case when you’re in bed.

This is the reason many people find that most of the problems with reflux at night. This is particularly aggravating because not only are they in pain but they’re also not getting a good night sleep.

Another logical step to curing acid reflux is reducing when neutralizing the acid. you probably have the original and acid in your kitchen cupboard: old-fashioned baking soda. However if you use too much of this it can cause electrolyte problems. Today you’re better off using some liquid antacid from a drugstore.

Newer medications, such as Pepcid, work by preventing acid from being produced in the first place.

The information is article is just a starting point. I highly recommend that you do additional research to find acid reflux cure that’s best for you.
